Every Friday, Fandor’s curators serve up a newly available film worthy of special attention. This week’s Featured Release is Sun Don’t Shine directed by Amy Seimetz.
“…a dreamily compelling lovers-on-the-lam movie [that] unspools like a Françoise Sagan novel: purposefully, enigmatically and with a raw emotional purity that makes its volatile central couple appear even more defenseless than they really are.” – Jeannette Catsoulis, The New York Times
Sun Don’t Shine is the directorial debut from promising newcomer Amy Seimetz. The critically acclaimed film follows a couple with a dark secret (played by Kate Lyn Sheil and Kentucker Audley) on a tense road trip through central Florida. But where are they going? And what are they running from? Described as “a swampy Badlands for the 21st century” (Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune), Sun Don’t Shine places Seimetz firmly on the list of young American filmmakers to watch.
