Every Friday, Fandor’s curators serve up a newly available film worthy of special attention. This week’s Featured Release is the documentary Meet Marlon Brando directed by Albert Maysles, David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin.
“The actor was never more appealing than in this candid-camera cameo, his best performance.” — Howard Thompson, The New York Times
Marlon Brando waxes philosophical, teases and charms his way through a series of interviews (an impromptu junket to prop up his floundering picture Morituri) and the whole tap dance is captured serendipitously by the Maysles brothers and their frequent collaborator Charlotte Zwerin. He’s never been more personable, accessible or insightful than in the footage that comprises Meet Marlon Brando, which is available for the first time since in the U.S. since its theatrical release in 1965.
