“As feature film loses its dominant position, what will follow?”
A bold query sparked an equally bold discussion, hosted by Fandor CEO Ted Hope, on the ways that platform influences structure and structure influences content. Last Wednesday, the Reinvent Hollywood roundtable series started off with a bang, taking stock of the ways in which cinema is being dismantled and remade by technology.
Anchored by filmmaker, artist, founder of the Webby Awards and co-founder of The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences Tiffany Shlain, the live roundtable also included an impressive roster of thought leaders in entertainment, storytelling and transmedia: Karim Ahmad, Lance Weiler, Liz Rosenthal, Michael Reilhac, and Reinventors founder Peter Leyden.
Much ground was covered during the 90-minute discussion, but a defining point turned out to be an emphasis on agility—the imperative to prevent a platform or technological change from stifling creativity.
If you want to immerse yourself into the entire dialogue and pull out your own inspiration and forecasting, you can watch the un-edited video below:
And stay tuned! The next LIVE Reinvent Hollywood roundtable, Episode 2 (The Artists), will take place at 11:00 am PT on Tuesday, June 10.
