Laura Colella

Laura is a writer/director based in Providence, RI. Her films have screened at well over 100 festivals, winning over 25 awards. Her third and most recent feature Breakfast With Curtis was nominated for a Cassavetes Award and won a distribution award at the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards. The film was released theatrically by Abramorama.

Laura was a Sundance Directing and Screenwriting Fellow with her second feature Stay Until Tomorrow, and was one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces in Independent Film. She recently shot and edited behind-the-scenes footage for Paul Thomas Anderson's film Inherent Vice

As an undergrad at Harvard, Laura studied with filmmakers Raúl Ruiz, Robb Moss and Miklos Jancso. She earned an MFA in Writing for Performance from Brown, where she studied with Erik Ehn. She is represented by United Talent Agency and Circle of Confusion.

Laura serves as Founding Faculty Chair of a low-residency MFA in Film Program at Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), launched in 2013. She was a Senior Critic at Rhode Island School of Design for 17 years, where she taught 16MM Film Production and Directing. She also taught Screenwriting at Brown for two years.

Laura has written and directed plays, such as Magic Hour and Back East Out West. She is a long-time collaborator on multimedia productions with the Everett Company, and freelances as a writer, cinematographer and editor.
