Director Jacob Hatley's intimate documentary finds Levon Helm at home in Woodstock, NY, in the midst of creating his first studio album in 25 years. Shot during the course of two-plus years, this highly anticipated film focuses in on the four-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member after his 2007 comeback album, "Dirt Farmer," brought him back to the spotlight.

Superb. A loving tribute to one of the most iconic, beloved figures in Rock n Roll: Levon Helm. As a drummer, when I discovered Levon's playing and singing (just a great multi-instrumentalist), it was a game-changer for me. I rebuilt my playing based on selfless groove and a simpler approach. There are probably millions like me around the world.

This great film, though not always easy to watch because it documents Levon's final health decline, is uplifting in the grand picture of it: The lights were always on in this huge spirit from rural Arkansas. And his great musical partners and family members lift the whole thing up a notch, with their loving personal support and heartfelt presence throughout the great period of those Midnight Ramble shows in Woodstock, NY (which still continue on a limited basis, I believe). Long Live LEVON.
