An Incomplete History of the Travelogue, 19252012
A lyrical essay-film, AN INCOMPLETE HISTORY OF THE TRAVELOGUE captures the spirit of excess and adventure embodied by "The Great Gatsby" (published in 1925) in fragments from home movies of a wealthy American family on a Grand Tour of Europe and North Africa, illuminating truth as historically fleeting.

Thoroughly enjoyed the old footage, and the wonderful Gatsby quotes as homage!

Gorgeous, dissonant, silent short film shot by anonymous family on a trip to north africa in 1925 ; edited with title cards that link seemingly unrelated imagery to political, historical and literary events of that year, the meaning of which is still resonating. The sometimes sideways title cards were unnecessary, but overall this tiny film is haunting. Deft.

Nice footage to see, loved the chair carousel, reminds me of the one in Central park.
