Fandor categorizes the downtrodden and emotionally eviscerated 'Between Us' as a comedy. Well, it's more malaise than mischief. Two couples lock horns and partake in some serious bloodletting. Har har.
David Harbour does his best Ty Burrell impersonation. Julia Stiles purses her lips. Taye Diggs probably doesn't even know he's in a movie. And Melissa George concentrates desperately on her dialogue.
It's a pretty weak play, where everyone stomps their feet and pretends to say something important. If you want to see something compact, relentless, and full of electric dialogue, see Roman Polanski's 'Carnage.' Those couples will make it worth your time.
Two stars because somebody must have worked hard to do something - but whatever it was, I missed it. The actors demonstrated their respective abilities to flip roles and emotions, back and forth. We hopped back and forth between time changes, but to little effect. The tension was heavy and unrelenting all the way through the film. I failed to find the protagonist, someone to root for. I found myself looking time and again at the numbers at the end of the screen, waiting, hoping for the end. There was probably something important there, but I didn't find it. Empty. Depressing.
tedious and verbose. george and martha and ted and alice
4 mediocre actors tried to make a movie out of 15 cents.
