As a longtime HIV/AIDS survivor, and a lifelong gay activist, it is difficult for me to admit the following: This is not a movie but it is a brilliant radio monologue documentary with the benefit of an Yves Klein blue screen staring one in the face. This helps focus on listening to Derek Jarman's important words. We patiently share his most intimate reflections on going blind with AIDS, on coping with the end stages of a disease that took out one of our great artists. I listened to Blue twice to savor his experience so in that way I shared the most tangible expression of his art. But I cannot really call this a movie. It will change your life in ways that only good movies can. As a documentary, it is much easier to rate but not entirely. This is a video site and this is not even that. We need a rating system only if we want to tempt viewers with an experience. I assure you it is very worthwhile to listen to him. And the blue screen is pretty to look at, like the Yves Klein painting it resembles. Hear it for yourself and be moved. Then go watch any number of Derek Jarman's movies which are sophisticated, amusing, daringly original e.g. Caravaggio, Sebastiane, Edward II to name just a few.

Terrifically evocative- surprisingly vivid - but with one's eyes closed during the whole thing- NOT FOR EVERYBODY.
Don't know how to star it...
Delete. Not a film.
