For those of us who are interested in simple, affordable, DIY elegance in housing this film is a moving revelation of what early modernism has to offer. I particularly like the reminder that Bauhaus is not a style but a way of life leaving you free to invent. It made me feel more sympathetic to what now seems an oppressively campy, commodified idea. Its clear from the interviews with some of the elderly owners and associates of the families who built and owned these houses that people knew what they were doing.
A personal and heartfelt look at a creative community--and how the traces of their presence live on within the boundaries of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The ethos of a creative community which has had a big influence on our culture expressed in the personal work of the artists and designers. The film captures the sense of time and place beautifully and quietly.
Ostentation is oppressive. To live simply and within one's needs is the key. Reagan fucked it all up.
xlnt! who knew????
