December 7th1943

Sorry. This film is not currently available.

John Ford and Gregg Toland's DECEMBER 7TH was banned by the U.S. government for nearly fifty years. This restored version runs eighty-two minutes (with subtitles added to the controversial Japanese language sequences) whereas a censored thirty-four minute version of the film was released in the 1940s and earned John Ford his fourth Academy Award®. Set in Honolulu on the day before the Japanese attack, Uncle Sam (Walter Huston) vacations complacently in Hawaii albeit concerned with the on-going war in Europe. On Sunday morning, December 7th, air squadrons appear, "swooping down like flights of tiny locust." The attack on Pearl Harbor is vividly illustrated as only Hollywood can do.

This film has some seriously confused and complex racial politics.

th8is is one of the best I have seen so far. It is to the point and very accurate in detail

Interesting. Full of propaganda but also amazing footage. Very melodramatic, but the old shots of Oahu and Honolulu are priceless.

I'd like to but the film stopped playing at 29:16 (of and 81.36 film). I'd like to watch the rest of the film but apparently it is malfunctioning.
