Friends1912
In the era of the gold rush, Dora (Mary Pickford) likes one fellow but he decides to prospect elsewhere and leaves her behind. Before long, another fellow (Lionel Barrymore) decides to make a play for the lonely young woman, too. A remarkably talented cast distances the relatively simple framework of FRIENDS from other potboilers of the period. As you'll note from the wear-and-tear at the head and tails of this print, it is a wonder that the film survived at all in a complete form.

Not one of D.W.'s best and unfair to really judge, for at it's time, films such as these were each groundbreaking in their own right. Pickford had depth as an actor and you can see the decision-making on her face. The streets scenes are a wonderful peak into early extra work as well.
