She didn't get permission from the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) to shoot a film. so Agnes Varda took 1800 photos, brought them back to France, and made a fabulous film anyway. Don't expect a comprehensive history in 27 minutes, but what we get is delightful and informative. And the music is super. Agnes Varda hasn't disappointed me yet!

A wonderful look at Cuba in the early stages of the revolution, and a revolution in the use of stills to tell a cinematic story.
A very simplistic, condescending portray of a more complicated country. White girls with black dolls and black girls with white dolls? Please! Worse than anything was the push the film made for the Cuban revolution, presenting it as a hopeful change for the society. Even agnes varda, now acknowledged she was mistaken by the "myth" of the Cuban revolution. Yes the photos are good but the final product it is not.
Absolute beautiful photographs .
Enjoyed the music and the photos of Cuba. Liked the way the photos were placed to the beat of the music. The narrators voices were engaging.
