She's still got major tude and sticks her upturned piggy nose at a new breed of hicks. All the dudes in this movie have greasy pompadours and all the ladies look like hard faced strippers in between jobs, it's pretty glorious."

This is a magnificent piece of sleaze. If you could reach out and touch this movie, it would be covered with a thick layer of grease from a dirty grill in a broken-down lunch wagon. David L. Friedman serves up some lowdown, Gutbucket exploitation that’s not much on plot (a cheap knock-off of Todd Browning’s legendary “FREAKS.”), yet in the midst of telling this tawdry little tale , “She Freak” becomes something of a documentary, capturing the day to day operations of a carny in the latter half of the 1960’s. In gives you a unique look at a forgotten Americana from nearly a half-century ago.
Though it looks like a washed-out, 1960’s home movie, the story and the characters seem to be made for an earlier time, a Dustbowl melodrama, overacted and overdirected, but that gives the film an energy that carries to an outrageous conclusion. David L. Friedman was above all, a showman, and this is definitely a show!
Trivia time. “Shorty” played by Felix Silla later became a cultural footnote when he put on a robot suit and became “Twiki” on TV’s “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” in the late 70’s. Beedee-beedee-beedee.
