Shifting Sands1918
Marcia Grey is a struggling artist with a sick sister and an unpaid rent bill. The rent collector insults her and, after a struggle, he drops his wallet. Missing it, he calls a policeman and, by way of revenge, he returns to the flat where he accuses Marcia of theft. Unable to defend herself, she is tried, convicted and ultimately "does time." Released from prison, she joins the Salvation Army and engages in welfare work. While the print source is quite poor and particularly washed-out, this 1918 silent film from the short-lived (yet prolific) Triangle Film Corporation is notable for being one of the earliest surviving features starring Gloria Swanson.
