In the early 1960s, the hit single "Dominique" was something of a tonic for the troubles of the era. Little was known then nor now of Soeur Sourire (Sister Smile), the Belgian nun who recorded the astonishingly successful album and then, shortly thereafter, left the convent. In his phenomenal feature-length debut, Roger Deutsch fuses a handful of disparate details with a magnificent performance by Ginevra Colonna to construct a remarkable and speculative portrait of the nun's tragic life, "beautifully photographed and full of disturbing surrealism and even more disturbing spirituality..." (Los Angeles Weekly).
