I Love this documentary.
Amazing. Excellent live footage. An excellent definition of the zydeco hierarchy.
If you are a fan of zydeco or the music of Louisiana in general, this is a great document of a period of musical history. As is mentioned in the description, most of the featured performers had passed on a few years after the footage was shot.
As I watched this documentary, it was hard not to think back to the work of Les Blank, who explored the music of Louisiana in numerous films. One his documentary subjects, in fact, was Clifton Chenier, the first "king" of zydeco. The mixture of interviews and performances in The Kingdom of Zydeco is similar to Blank's approach, but Mugge focused less on Creole culture than Blank did.
good film. made me feel the breadth and depth of our Nation, so mightily weaved in with achievements. The existence of ZYDECO, as a music on its OWN, deciphering and transmitting the times and woes of a vital minority, is simply AWESOME.
Thank you, FANDOR, for bearing such magnificent witness. Joe, 11/13/2016
Chaves too hung up on the competitive marketing.Let the music speak.
