Too contrived
Very well made intriguing suspenseful classic. Superb acting and cinematography.
This review contains spoilers, so if you haven't seen the film yet, you may not want to read after this sentence. I liked the creepiness of this film, and the now-more-archaic 70's film reel feeling. Much less desirable (if not outright upsetting) was tormenting an animal. If you see my other reviews, you'll see that this is a very tender spot for me in regard to using animals in films. Anyway, I would say 4 stars for this film overall: acting, atmosphere, and setting. 2 stars for some of the aspects which were a bit too convenient: knowing escape routes/windows, and having a handy-dandy boat w/anchor right at base of wall.
Two stars just because its interesting to see Liv U and Max Von S. But really a child could poke holes in the plot. Utterly implausible in quite a few important details. The implausibility is so distracting that I'd say don't waste your time with this one. I finished watching only because i was cooped up with cabin fever.
We loved The Night Visitor, much suspense and tension and a wonderful surprise ending. The weather and all the characters very cold with emotions, which added to the tension. 4 out of 5 stars..
