Though for much of its cinematic history Scotland was more a shooting location and exporter of stellar talent (from Sean Connery to Ewan McGregor) than a base for local production, that began to
change in the 1980s, particularly with the success of director Bill Forsyth's early films. Today it boasts a busy scene of film activity both exclusively regional in origin and in conjunction with outside resources.
